Universality classes for interface growth with quenched disorder.

چکیده
We present numerical evidence that there are two distinct universality classes characterizing driven interface roughening in the presence of quenched disorder. The evidence is based on the behavior of λ, the coefficient of the nonlinear term in the growth equation. Specifically, for three of the models studied, λ → ∞ at the depinning transition, while for the two other models, λ → 0. PACS numbers: 47.55.Mh 68.35.Fx Typeset using REVTEX

Singularities and avalanches in interface growth with quenched disorder.
A simple model for an interface moving in a disordered medium is presented. The model exhibits a transition between the two universality classes of interface growth in the presence of quenched disorder. Using this model, it is shown that the application of constraints to the local slopes of the interface produces avalanches of growth that become relevant in the vicinity of the depinning transit...
متن کاملInterface dynamics of immiscible two-phase lattice-gas cellular automata: a model with random dynamic scatterers and quenched disorder in two dimensions.
We use a lattice gas cellular automata model in the presence of random dynamic scattering sites and quenched disorder in the two-phase immiscible model with the aim of producing an interface dynamics similar to that observed in Hele-Shaw cells. The dynamics of the interface is studied as one fluid displaces the other in a clean lattice and in a lattice with quenched disorder. For the clean syst...
متن کاملScaling Behavior of Driven Interfaces Above the Depinning Transition
We study the depinning transition for models representative of each of the two universality classes of interface roughening with quenched disorder. For one of the universality classes, the roughness exponent changes value at the transition, while the dynamical exponent remains unchanged. We also find that the prefactor of the width scales with the driving force. We propose several scaling relat...
متن کاملScaling properties of driven interfaces in disordered media.
We perform a systematic study of several models that have been proposed for the purpose of understanding the motion of driven interfaces in disordered media. We identify two distinct universality classes. (i) One of these, referred to as directed percolation depinning (DPD), can be described by a Langevin equation similar to the Kardar-Parisi-Zhang equation, but with quenched disorder. (ii) The...
متن کاملInterface depinning versus absorbing-state phase transitions.
According to recent numerical results from lattice models, the critical exponents of systems with many absorbing states and order parameter coupled to a nondiffusive conserved field coincide with those of the linear interface depinning model within computational accuracy. In this paper the connection between absorbing-state phase transitions and interface pinning in quenched disordered media is...
